Research Projects & Related Matters
Participation in National & International Research Projects & Related Institutions
An integral part of university related research is the participation in various national and international collaborative research projects. In some instances these research projects offer funding, while in other cases participation in these research projects does not entail funding but only occasional coverage of various expenses.
I. As Faculty Fellow with Yale University's Center for Cultural Sociology, I participated in the 2008 and 2009 conferences that took place in the US and Greece respectively. The conferences will conclude with the forthcoming publication of a volume on Cultural Trauma, scheduled to appear in print in the coming years. Jointly with Miranda Christou (Dept. of Education, University of Cyprus), we have coauthored a paper that analyzes the manner in which the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus has achieved the status of a cultural trauma for the Greek Cypriot community, as well as the consequences of trauma reception for the future generations.
II. Since 2007, I am also Cyprus Program Director for the European Values Study. In 2008, Cyprus was included for the first time ever among the countries which participated in the 2008 wave of the European Values Study group. Data is currently made available for both the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot parts of the island.
III. Since 2006, I am also Cyprus Correspondent for EUREL – Sociological and Legal Data on Religion in Europe. In this capacity, I have supervised and / or authored the various entries for Cyprus at the EUREL website. I have also supervised and authored various discussions on current ecclesiastical affairs published at the EUREL website.
IV. As co-founder of the Historical and Literary Archives of Kavala (HILAK), I have participated over the years in HILAK's actions and programs. The full listing of these actions is provided at HILAK's website. These activities have been financially supported by various local agencies, including the Hellenic Republic's Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace (2006, 2007) & the Hellenic Republic's Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (2005).
